Learn how to paint landscapes in oil

Skill Level: All Skill Levels

Instructor: Alex Foltz

SUPPLIES: Supplies are included in the tuition of this class.

MORE ABOUT THE CLASS: Have you always wanted to paint landscapes in oil but felt intimidated by complex techniques and endless supplies? This 4-week course cuts through the confusion, providing a clear, intuitive path using the powerful Alla Prima method.

Say goodbye to complicated steps! We use a streamlined process and a minimalist materials list to ensure your first experience with oil painting is fun, affordable, and accessible.

Students will learn the expressive "wet-on-wet" technique, a direct method that accelerates your learning and lets you capture the vibrancy of a scene quickly. Together we will systematically explore the fundamentals, focusing on color theory, tool choice, and layering to build tangible depth and texture in your landscapes. This class builds your confidence by teaching you why techniques work.

The goal of this class is not a paint-along, rather an introduction to the fundamentals of landscape painting that will allow students to utilize effective techniques in their own creative projects. Designed for adults (ages 16+) from beginner to intermediate levels who are ready for a focused, efficient study of oil landscape painting.

* Respiratory Sensitivities (Asthma, COPD, etc): Please note that oil paint techniques require the use of low-vapor mineral spirits. We mitigate their effect using fans and air purifiers in the classroom. Those with respiratory sensitivities are asked to contact us in advance to discuss any concerns. 706-722-5495 or twilber@ghia.org
