About the Program: Imagine a morning where your child doesn’t just read about the Renaissance, but actually picks up a charcoal stick to study the same lighting techniques used by Leonardo Da Vinci himself.

At the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, we believe that art is a bridge between history and personal discovery. Our Homeschool Art Intensive is designed to transform the way students see the world by blending deep historical context with the physical act of creation. Read below for more on how this program can supplement your family’s homeschool curriculum.

From the Art Museum, to the Studio

Each week, students learn a piece of important art history, then move to the studio to create artworks inspired by these masterpieces.

Each two-hour class of the GHIA Homeschool Art Intensive begins with a journey through time. During the first hour, we explore the "History & Heart" of art, moving beyond simple names and dates to discuss the stories and the "why" behind the masterpieces. Once their minds are full of inspiration, we transition into our professional art education studio.

The second hour is dedicated to "Practical Application," where students use high-quality materials to replicate the methods and styles they just studied. It is a rare opportunity for students to not only understand art, but to embody the techniques of the greats.

The Value Beyond the Canvas

This program serves as a rigorous fine-arts elective that encourages historical literacy and technical mastery. Your student will build a portfolio of work they are truly proud of, all while enjoying the social atmosphere of a shared studio. Best of all, we provide all the professional-grade supplies and handle the cleanup, leaving you free to enjoy your student’s progress without the mess at home.
