From Executive Director, Heather Williams
“The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is saying goodbye to one of its very best. After more than two decades of extraordinary service, beloved pottery instructor Twilla Brock has announced her retirement. Her departure marks the end of an era, and her presence will be deeply, genuinely missed.
During her remarkable tenure, Twilla has taught pottery to hundreds, if not thousands of students, guiding beginners and seasoned artists alike with patience, expertise, and unfailing enthusiasm. Her commitment to offering high-quality classes has been matched only by her devotion to the people in them. Students return to her classroom again and again because Twilla creates a space where they feel like artists, not just students. She nurtures creativity, encourages exploration, and bolsters confidence at every turn.
Twilla’s influence extends far beyond the studio walls. She has been instrumental in shaping and growing the ceramics program into the vibrant, thriving community it is today. Her passion for clay is contagious, her kindness unmistakable, and her readiness to help has made an enduring impact on all who have worked with her. Her energy, generosity, and spirit have set a standard that will be felt for years to come.
While her daily presence will be profoundly missed, our doors will always remain open. And who knows—perhaps we can persuade her to return from time to time to lead a workshop or raku session.
Please join us in thanking Twilla Brock for her years of dedication, artistry, and friendship, and in wishing her the very best in her well-earned retirement.”
