A Sense of Place Exhibition 2022, Main Gallery

The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art has two primary gallery spaces - the Main Gallery and the Creel-Harison Community Gallery on the 3rd floor. At times we also utilize additional spaces in both Ware’s Folly and the Walker Mackenzie Education Studio. Read on to learn more.

The Main Gallery

The Main Gallery at GHIA consists of the ballroom of the second floor of the historic Ware’s Folly building, with overflow into the entry hallway.

No Vacancy, works by Larry Millard on view January - February 2020

The Main Gallery has served as the primary gallery of the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art since its founding in 1937. The gallery’s incredible architecture provides a contrasting yet stunning backdrop to the artwork displayed. A rotating calendar of exhibits features national and international contemporary artists. Main Gallery shows are selected by the Institute’s exhibition committee.

GHIA accepts proposals for exhibitions by artists year-round. Main Gallery shows are selected by the Institute’s exhibition committee. Feel free to contact us in advance of submitting a proposal to answer any questions you may have. > CONTACT

Creel-Harison Community Art Gallery

The Creel-Harison Art Gallery at GHIA is located on the third floor of the historic Ware’s Folly building.

Leslie Hamrick speaks during her exhibit “Thoughtful Spontaneity” February 2024

This gallery space was created in 2009 through a generous gift by the Creel-Harison Foundation. There was a growing demand for spaces dedicated to the exhibition of artists based solely in the Augusta area, and this gallery space answers that need.

The Creel-Harison Community Art Gallery is open to all Artist members of the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art who live in the Augusta River Region. All works must be original and not previously exhibited at GHIA.
