DEADLINE TO APPLY: June 15 at 5pm.
Veterans Creative Expression Workshop
PROJECT OVERVIEW
This program is designed to bridge the gap between military experience and artistic expression. By pairing 10 professional artist instructors with 10 veterans in a 1-on-1 collaborative environment, we aim to translate personal narratives into visual concepts. The program focuses on storytelling, symbolic communication, and therapeutic creative exploration. This project culminates with an exhibition at the Augusta VA Uptown location in November.
SCHEDULE & STRUCTURE
The program consists of two intensive sessions, each lasting 2-3 hours serving a total of 10 veterans:
Session 01: Saturday, June 27, 10-1pm (5 veterans)
Session 02: Saturday, June 27, 2-5pm (5 veterans)
Each veteran will receive guidance in:
Narrative Mapping: Each veteran will work with their artist instructor to create a comprehensive "Mind Map" of their experiences.
Visual Literacy: Instruction on how color theory and symbolic imagery can be used to convey complex emotional messages.
Concept Formation: Collaboration to finalize a visual concept that represents the veteran’s unique story.
Veterans must apply by emailing GHIA Education Coordinator Terry Wilber with their contact information or complete the form linked below by June 15 at 5pm. Participants will be selected on a first-come first-served basis. Selected veterans will be notified no later than June 20, 2026.
