About the Juror : Kristi Jilson

Each year a member of the local arts community is asked to jury the Agnes Markwalter Youth Competition.

Kristi Jilson joined the executive leadership team at Westobou in early 2014. She is responsible for overseeing all strategic and operational efforts, financial planning and fundraising, and the artistic direction of the organization’s multi-arts festival, year-round gallery space, and various other events and programs. Prior to Westobou, Kristi worked in various management roles for the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Additionally, Kristi has a diverse arts administration background including co-founding an artist co-op and serving on multiple Boards and committees. She is an ambitious leader whose enthusiasm for projects is contagious. Kristi is a 2007 graduate of SCAD.

Held in conjunction with National Youth Art Month, the Institute’s 41st Annual Agnes Markwalter Youth Art Competition and Exhibition seeks to promote the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs for all children throughout the CSRA.

The 2020 competition will showcase work inspired by the theme “Take a Journey Through Art”, created by K-12 students from public, private, and home schools in Aiken, Burke, Columbia, McDuffie, and Richmond Counties. This exhibition is generously sponsored by the Markwalter family.

Divisional entries from each school on view in the student galleries at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art from March 6 through the 21st, 2024.
