More about this class: The long-leaf pine has long been the silent provider of the Southeast’s most beautiful functional art, and in this three-week workshop, we bring that storied tradition to your fingertips. This is an invitation to step away from the digital world and into a journey of "slow craft," where each session builds the skills needed to transform raw, aromatic needles into a sophisticated vessel of your own design.
We provide the authentic long-leaf pine needles—the gold standard for Southern basketry—and guide you through the intricate stitches and shaping techniques that turn these natural materials into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Because this craft rewards a steady rhythm, you’ll carry your project home between our weekly gatherings, letting the meditative practice of coiling become a quiet part of your daily routine. By the end of our final session, you won’t just leave with a completed basket; you’ll leave with a piece of your own history and a timeless skill you can be proud to have mastered with your own two hands.
