The National Juried Competition A Sense of Place, is open to participants from throughout the United States. The exhibition, now in its 42nd year, seeks to recognize the outstanding quality and diversity of work being generated by contemporary American artists and will be on view in the Main Gallery September 6–October 11, 2024.

About The Juror: Cheryl Goldsleger

 Cheryl Goldsleger's paintings and drawings explore the relationships individuals and societies have with place and location. In her most recent works, she envisions various sites and imagines the myriad forces that act upon them and their inhabitants. From 2015 through 2020, she served as the William S. Morris Eminent Scholar in Art at Augusta University. Goldsleger’s extensive exhibition record includes the 2019 European Cultural Center’s Venice Art Biennale (Italy), The National Academy of Sciences (DC), the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters (NY), The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (GA), the Krannert Museum (IL), the Montclair Art Museum (NJ), the North Carolina Museum of Art (NC), The Institute of Contemporary Art (PA), and the High Museum (GA). Her artwork is represented in important museum collections including the Albright-Knox Gallery (NY); the Brooklyn Museum (NY); The Fogg Museum at Harvard University; the Greenville County Museum (SC); the Herbert F. Johnson Museum at Cornell University (NY); the High Museum (GA); the Museum of Modern Art, (NY); the New Orleans Museum (LA); New Mexico Museum of Art (NM); the North Carolina Museum of Art (NC); and Yale University Art Gallery (CT); among other important public and private collections. Goldsleger’s public project Crossroads is a permanent mosaic tile floor installation in Terminal A of the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia.

Calendar of Events

April 25 – June 23 – Open for entries

June 23, 2024 – Entry deadline 

July 25 – Notification letters sent to artists

On or before August 21 – Delivery deadline for accepted works 

September 6–October 11 – Exhibition on view  

September 6, 2024, from 5-7 PM – Awards presentation and reception

October 25 – Deadline for artwork to be picked up.

Return shipment - can take up to 2 weeks after the closing date of show to be shipped due to the volume of artwork.
