Tom Crowther

Crowther’s work often explores the theme of identity, the psychology of the self, and dealing/living with social anxiety and depression while raising a child in a world that is self-destructing from increasing social/political divides, a global pandemic, and capitalism. However, recently he is moving back towards picture making for picture making sake since he is growing frustrated with art work becoming increasingly elitist, pompous, cold and un-inviting often placing more focus on the conceptual idea rather than the quality of the work. Crowther makes work with the philosophy that artwork should be accessible to all people, and if the viewer needs an advanced degree to understanding and appreciate it, then then the work has catastrophically failed.

Although oil paint is his preferred medium, he likes to experiment and work with other media such as printmaking.

Staci Swider

My sole purpose painting is to elicit a smile from my viewer and to share an unspoken moment with them. Painting affords me an opportunity to connect with people without words. I began my art career as a textile designer in the home furnishings industry and today my work "reinterprets the patterns and textures found in function-driven objects such as quilts and baskets as dreamscape imagery that straddles the line between figurative and abstract."  My work is exhibited at many galleries across the Southeast.
