THE OFTEN OVERLOOKED POWER OF DRAWING

Knowing how to draw is foundational to almost every successful form of art. Due to its ease of application, it is a perfect medium for studies & brainstorming ideas. However, drawing has tremendous vitality all its own. With such a versatile range of drawing tools, techniques, & topics available, it has almost limitless possibilities, & can be as powerful as any other media. This stimulating & comprehensive course is designed to give an overview & hands-on knowledge of various drawing materials & techniques, design principles, & subject matter. Dry media such as graphite, charcoal, & conte’ crayon rendered on different paper surfaces will be explored. Toward the end of the course, colored pencils will also be introduced as an optional exercise. Each week, we will focus on a new theme such as still life, landscape, animals, & people as they are rendered in a distinct art medium. Demonstrations, discussions, & gentle critiques will be included. With so much to choose from, everyone should find their own art niche using dry media.
