artists' market and festival 2008
It’s
here again! Our second Spring
Artists’ Market and Festival will be held on Friday – Saturday, March 14
–15, 2008 on the campus of the Institute,
506 Telfair Street
. The Festival will spotlight local
artists and expose patrons to the visual arts through an exhibit, demonstrations
and hands-on activities for children. The two-day exhibition offers works for
sale in media ranging from photography and ceramics to painting and printmaking.
Artist demonstrations will allow patrons to see a variety of visual art
methods and practices firsthand. Youngsters will also have a chance to
experience art through hands-on activities ranging from clay to watercolor!
Admission to all activities is free.

The
Gertrude Herbert is delighted to be a part of the inaugural Augusta
Photography Festival. Scheduled for
June 19 – 22, 2008
, the event celebrates the art of
photography through exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and an artists’
competition. The Festival kicks off with an opening reception for photographer
Stephen Lawson at the Institute on Thursday, June 19. Other activities include
exhibitions at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History and the
Morris
Museum
of Art, and special workshops and
events at the Institute, the
Augusta
Canal
,
Phinizy
Swamp
, and other sites around the CSRA.
The Festival’s competition will celebrate the world around us as
professional and amateur photographers are invited to interpret the theme Environments:
Past, Present and Personal. Jurors
will award first through third place in each sub-theme, along with one overall
Best of Show. The awards ceremony
and exhibition opening will be held on Saturday, June 21 at the Columbia
