These art classes will allow you to experience art in a very hands-on way, crafting unique designs from clay, metal, or fiber. Express your imagination as you create useful and decorative items for yourself or for friends. Learn from our professional instructors as you and your classmates work together to master new skills.

Beginning, intermediate and advanced students will have the opportunity to
continue developing their skills in the various approaches to throwing
functional ware on the wheel under the guidance of Terrie Prouty, who
specializes in this area. Forms will be thrown, altered and assembled to create
various vessels. Projects will be tailored to the student’s skill level. Glazing
techniques will also be addressed. Students must provide a clean towel each
week. No extra supplies will be necessary.

HAND-BUILDING CLAY FACE JUGS

Students will explore different ways of enhancing the surface of hand-built clay
forms. Particular attention will be paid to the creation and history of face
jugs. Additional projects may include slab bowls, platters, boxes, and cups.
Instruction will include the basics of hand-building and glazing. Students must
provide a clean towel each week. No extra supplies will be necessary.

HANDWEAVING: JOYFUL MAGIC

Beginning students will learn the basics of floor loom weaving and complete an
exciting sampler that will also serve as the foundation for a finished project.
Students will discover the joy in the creative potential of variations possible
with the use of different yarns and colors in weaving. Experienced students will
receive individual attention in order to weave a project of their choice. All
supplies will be provided.

STICK and MIG ARC WELDING

This more advanced course is for students who want to weld steel that is
1/8-inch thick and up. At their own workstations, students will learn both MIG
and STICK Arc welding processes. Each class will include theory, demonstration
and individual hands-on instruction. Instruction will include the use of
oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting equipment. All basic supplies, except the
required textbook Welder’s Handbook by Richard Finch, are included. A personal
safety equipment list will be provided upon registration. There is no
prerequisite for this course.
