FIGURE DRAWING

Approach the human figure as landscape and explore drawing with fluidity using a variety of media. Hand and eye will coordinate to “see” line, shape, form, value and texture through the exploration of different drawing techniques. Students will work from a live nude model during the five weeks. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

PASTEL PEOPLE & PET PORTRAITS

Drawing portraits of people and pets from photographs will be the subject matter as students explore the pastel medium and its magical color possibilities. Continue to develop observation skills as you interpret figure drawing, portraiture and use of perspective. Composition, unity and individual style will also be emphasized in this class. Supplies will be provided by the Institute upon payment of the $20 supply fee, or students may request a copy of the supply list upon registration.

Learn to interpret what you "see" using basic drawing methods and materials. Gesture, negative space, cross-contour and inverted drawing exercises will help students learn to draw more realistically. Still life, perspective, landscapes, animals, and people will be included in the subject matter. PORTRAIT DRAWING IN CHARCOAL

Come explore this exciting medium! Students will realize the potential of charcoal as they learn to see individual facial characteristics. As students work with shadows and shapes they will acquire the skills to bring facial features alive in their portrait drawings. The class will work from live clothed models. THE HUMAN FORM AS LANDSCAPE: INK WASH

Come learn the meditative practice that is ink wash painting as you explore the human form. Students will learn to see how curves and twists of the human body can visually transform into a beautiful landscape-like ink painting. A live nude model will present students with longer poses, facilitating the technical requirements of working with a bamboo brush and ink. A supply list will be provided upon registration.
